Transcript: One original transcript for each university attended in which you have studied; including both undergraduate and graduate degrees and course work. Transcripts in languages other than English or French must be accompanied by a certified literal translation. All Transcripts must be uploaded directly to the online application system. Personal Statement: Research Statement (Statement of Interest) A brief statement (1-2 pages) of your research proposal to be uploaded to the online application system. Candidates will be accepted only when competent supervision is available. Recommendation Letter: Two Confidential Letters of Recommendation from instructors most familiar with your academic work must be submitted. (These can be found on McMaster University Graduate Studies Online Application – the online application system.) Writing Sample: Sample of Work Please submit a single representative sample of your philosophical writing in English to the online application system. This can be a paper, or a chapter of a book or thesis, in either its’ original or revised form. Please bear in mind that a sample illustrating philosophical argumentation is much more useful than one that is simply expository. The quality of the sample is an important factor in admission decisions, especially regarding the applicant’s capacity for critical philosophical enquiry, as well as the ability to write clear and effective prose. Applicants should select or revise their sample with these criteria in mind. The sample must not exceed 7000 words. A longer sample may render your application ineligible for consideration. Your identity should appear on the cover page only. Other Document: Please submit a list of any research, publications, academic awards, teaching, or work experience in, or relevant to, philosophy. Also, applicants are urged to declare any disabilities and provide details concerning accommodation given by their previous educational institutions, at the time of application. Such declaration is encouraged particularly in cases where it is felt that the disability may have affected past academic performance, and/or where accommodation may be required in order for the student to be successful in his/her graduate program.
