Every year several languages die out. Some people think that this is not important because life will be easier if there are fewer languages in the world. To what extent do you agree or disagree with this opinion?在线咨询
Language is one of the most beautiful things created in the world as there is nothing like a language with which we can express or describe whatever we like. Unfortunately, existing languages are gradually going extinct. Some people reckon our life would be much easier with fewer languages. However, I am against this statement after giving it a second-thought.
Admittedly, life seemingly would become simpler if there were fewer languages. To be more specific, people may communicate with each other with more efficiency and effectiveness since with fewer languages, it's more likely for them to speak the same language.
Nonetheless, no matter how convincing that may sound, the continuous extinction of languages should be our concern. A language is deeply embedded into the corresponding culture. If the language died out, it would be very likely for the culture in which the language rooted to follow the suit. Therefore, fewer languages will result in less diversity of culture, which will only render boredom for our life. Moreover, learning foreign languages has many benefits. To begin with, different languages possess different modes of thinking. By being exposed to different ways of thinking, people's outlook of the world can be expanded. For instance, Chinese as a language is generalising while English is logical and analytical. Thus, Chinese students can train their logic by learning English. Also, we are exposed to different cultures when learning a language other than our mother tongue. Consequently, we are equipped with more culture knowledge from other places and at the same time we become more tolerant of cultural differences.
As stated above, it's concerning that languages are fading from our life considering the benefits we can gain just from learning languages. It is high time for us to take immediate actions to stop the situation getting from bad to worse.
